Smoke season

Clean air indoors when the valley fills with smoke.

On smoke days the best place to be is inside with the windows shut and the air being filtered. Whether your system can do that depends on the filter it can take, whether the fan can run on its own, and how tight the house is.

  • Filter slot checked for the highest rating your system can handle
  • Fan set to run for filtration on smoke days
  • Outside-air dampers closed where they exist

Questions

Asked before a replacement.

Do I need a permit to replace my air conditioner or furnace?

In California, usually yes. Replacing a central air conditioner, heat pump or furnace normally needs a mechanical permit, and for most homes the energy code also requires independent testing by a HERS rater. We include both in the estimate.

What is a HERS rater?

An independent, certified tester who checks items the energy code requires, such as duct leakage, after the installer has finished. The results are recorded in a state-approved registry before the city signs the permit off.

Can my system help on smoke days?

Often, yes. With a better filter, the fan able to run on its own and outside air closed off, a central system can filter indoor air during smoke events. We check what your system can take.

Do you work on businesses as well as homes?

Yes. Offices, shops, restaurants, clinics and tasting rooms: rooftop units, split and ductless systems, maintenance plans and commercial permits.

Does Goldcrest do coatings or painting?

No. Coatings is part of the business name, not the trade. Goldcrest does heating, ventilation and air conditioning only.

Which areas do you cover?

Santa Rosa, Windsor, Rohnert Park, Sebastopol, Healdsburg, Petaluma, Sonoma and Kenwood.
